This recipe has a great balance between spicy and sweet. I love using scotch bonnet for the heat and aromatic flavour, but you can use any chilli you like!

What ingredients do you need for this dish (includes possible substitutions)?

Onion: brown or red both work here!

Garlic: add as much as you want!

Scotch bonnet: I love using scotch bonnet for the heat and aromatic flavour, but you can use any chilli you like!

Sugar: white or brown sugar are both fine here, or honey can be used too.

Apple cider vinegar: red or white vinegar can be substituted for apple cider vinegar.

Butter beans: any white bean or chickpea will be delicious!

Basil: I love a bit of basil on top but you could also use parsley.
