Big Mac Taco

These are really easy to make and so delicious! They’re all over social media right now, and I have to say it may be my favourite viral recipe to date. I used vegetarian burgers instead of mince beef here, mainly because that’s what I had in the fridge and I’m *trying* to eat less meat. But if you want, use mince beef instead!

Fill the taco with whatever you want, but to be truly Big Mac-esque, add lettuce, onion, cheese and pickles. And don’t forget the Big Mac sauce! You can make your own (recipe is included below), or just use some store bought burger sauce instead.

Big Mac Taco

What ingredients do you need for this dish (includes possible substitutions)?

Vegetarian burger: you’ll want to use the kind of burger you find in the fridge section of the supermarket (rather than the freezer section!), and they’ll need to be a bit ‘sticky’ so it adheres to the tortilla. Beyond burgers worked well! You can also of course subsitute this for mince beef.

Mini tortilla wraps: use the mini kind here rather than the standard size.

Sliced cheese: I like to use American style sliced cheese here (similar to the one you get in a Big Mac), but use whatever your favourite is if you don’t like this!

Lettuce, onion, pickles: add as much or as little as you like!

What to serve this with?

These are perfect as is. But if you want something extra then some chips or wedges would go very well.

Instructions

Make the burger sauce

If you want to make your own burger sauce (storebought is fine if not!), then just mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl.

Assemble the taco

Divide the burgers into two then roll into a ball. If you’re using mince beef instead of the vegetarian burgers, then each taco should have about 55g of meat. Press each ball into one tortilla, ensuring it’s spread evenly and covers the surface.

Cook the taco

In a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat, add the taco ‘meat’ side down. Cook for two minutes or until golden brown. It may stick slightly to the pan, but just release gently with a spatula. Flip it over then add the cheese and cook for a further 1-2 minutes, or until the tortilla is lightly toasted.

Fill the taco

Top with lettuce, onion, pickles and the burger sauce. Enjoy!
